Adjust Effects

Some readers will already be familiar with the effects in this category from working with Adobe Photoshop or similar image-editing software. The critical difference between these programs and After Effects is that After Effects' Adjust effects are nondestructive. As you learned in Chapter 3, “Managing Footage,” nothing you do in After Effects actually alters the source files—something even Photoshop gurus may find liberating. You'll likely become accustomed to making many more adjustments to still images in After Effects and using Photoshop only for its unique advantages—retouching, cloning, selecting, and the like.
