Z
Z buffer

A grayscale image sometimes contained in a rendered 3D image file representing the distance of each pixel in the rendered image from the virtual camera. Light pixels in the Z buffer are further away from the camera than darker pixels, or vice versa. Can be used for modulating the strength of effects such as Zdefocus and Zblur, modulating contrast, or even compositing separate images based on their depth relationships.
