Lesson 3. Transitions > Adding multiple transitions at one time

Adding multiple transitions at one time

You can have some fun with the movie by choosing transitions that go with the mood of the scenes. First, you'll add some more clips to the Timeline.

1.
Make sure the edit line is at the end of the footage (at 00;00;23;28).

2.
In the Project window, select the following clips in this order while holding down the Control key: Gaze3.avi, Approach3.avi, Gaze4.avi, and Approach4.avi.

3.
Click the Automate to Sequence button () at the bottom of the Project window to insert the four clips with the default transition between them. The Automate to Sequence dialog box appears. Click OK.

Three more transitions are added to the Timeline at one time. One of them breaks the pattern of having them lead from Hero's gaze into his fantasies.

4.
In the Timeline, locate the transition between Approach3.avi and Gaze4.avi (at 00;00;37;27) and select it by clicking on it.

5.
Choose Edit > Clear.

6.
Select the third transition between Gaze3.avi and Approach3.avi.

7.
In the Effects palette, locate the Swing In transition, which is in the 3D Motion subfolder within the Video Transitions folder. Drag its icon to the third transition, overlaying the default Cross Dissolve transition and replacing it.

8.
Click on the Swing In transition so that its settings appear in the Effect Controls window.

9.
In the Effect Controls window, click the direction selector arrow pointing south of the transition icon so that the transition moves from South to North.

10.
Select the default transition between Gaze4.avi and Approach4.avi.

11.
In the Effects palette, locate the Curtain transition in the 3D Motion subfolder within the Video Transitions folder. Drag the Curtain icon to the default transition and overlay it to replace the Cross Dissolve transition.

12.
Play the Sequence or render-scrub to review your new work.

Now the sequence consists of a Cross Dissolve, followed by reciprocating Swing In transitions, and then a Curtain going up on Hero's fantasy of introducing himself to the girl of his dreams.

13.
Save the project.
