Lesson 11. Titles and Credits > Using other programs to create titles

Using other programs to create titles

The logo portion of the opening title sequence for Books & Beans was created with Photoshop. In the previous lesson, you left a video gap at the start of the Master sequence for the opening titles.

1.
Into the Titles bin of the Project window, import Adobe.prtl, Presents.prtl, and Logo.psd from your 11Lesson folder. The Import Layered File dialog box appears for Logo.psd. Import as Footage. Choose Layer 2 and select Document Size.

2.
In the Titles bin of the Project window, select Adobe.prtl. Choose Clip > Speed/Duration.

3.
Change the Duration to 600 (00;00;06;00). Click OK.

4.
In the Titles bin of the Project window, select Presents.prtl, and then choose Clip > Speed/Duration.

5.
Change the Duration to 300 (00;00;03;00). Click OK.

6.
In the Titles bin of the Project window, select Logo.psd, then choose Clip > Speed/Duration.

7.
Change the Duration to 611 (00;00;06;11). Click OK.

8.
Set the current time indicator to the beginning of the Master sequence (at 00;00;00;00).

9.
Drag Adobe.prtl to the Video 1 track with its In point at the start of the project.

10.
Move the edit line to 00;00;03;00.

11.
In the Titles bin of the Project window, select Presents.prtl and drag it to the Video 2 track so that its In point snaps to the edit line.

12.
In the Titles bin of the Project window, select and drag Logo.psd to the Video 2 track so that its In point snaps to the Out point of Presents.prtl.

13.
Play the rough cut of the opening titles.

14.
To make the changes less abrupt for Adobe.prtl, try a 45-frame (00;00;01;15) fade in from 0% opacity at the In point to 100% opacity at 00;00;01;15. Create keyframes at the two timecodes.

15.
For Presents.prtl, add a 15-frame (00;00;00;15) fade in from 0% opacity at its In point (00;00;03;00) to 100% opacity at 00;00;03;15, by creating keyframes at the two timecodes.

16.
For Logo.psd, add a 41-frame (00;00;01;11) fade out from 100% opacity at the In point of Sequence Ex to where the fade begins (00;00;09;22) to 0% opacity at its Out point (00;00;12;11), by creating keyframes at the two timecodes.

17.
Preview your titles and credits clips.

18.
Save the project.
