Lesson 1. The Workspace > Customizing keyboard shortcuts

Customizing keyboard shortcuts

The Keyboard Shortcuts editor in Premiere Pro enables video professionals to customize keyboard shortcuts to suit their individual editing preferences. Some professionals work faster using the keyboard rather than the mouse. In this section, you'll learn how to find and edit the keyboard shortcuts you need.

1.
To use the keyboard shortcuts, go to Edit > Keyboard Customization. The Keyboard Customization dialog box appears.

2.
Using the second pull-down menu, you can choose shortcuts for applications, tools, or windows. Choose Tools.

A list of keyboard shortcuts for tools appears in the right column. For example, the keyboard shortcut for the Zoom tool is Z.

Click OK.

Now, you'll practice editing a keyboard shortcut. In this example, you'll edit the Sequence window shortcut, but you can edit any of the shortcuts in this same manner.

3.
Go to Edit > Keyboard Customization, and click on the triangle next to File.

4.
Click on the triangle next to New.

5.
Click on Sequence. Click in the Shortcut column and type Shift + S.

6.
Click OK.

7.
Try using your new shortcut, by typing Shift + S. The New Sequence window appears.

Note

To delete a shortcut, go to Edit > Keyboard Customization. Click on the shortcut and then press Clear.

8.
To save your keyboard shortcut preferences, go to Edit > Keyboard Customization and click Save As.

9.
In the Name Key Set dialog box, type My shortcuts or whatever name you want.

10.
Click Save and then click OK.
