Chapter 11. Rendering and Real-Time > Configuring Real-Time Settings

Configuring Real-Time Settings

Whether you own the Mojo or are running the software-only setup, you need to address the following settings to help address real-time performance lapses:

  • Video prefill: In the Video Display Settings dialog box, you can enter a number for Seconds of Video to Pre-Fill.

The video prefill amount delays the playback of real-time effects by up to 10 seconds so that Xpress Pro can preprocess effects. This is like giving a runner a head start in a race and increases the likelihood that Xpress Pro will be able to play back all real-time effects successfully and without any hiccups.

  • Stream limit: In the Video Display Settings dialog box, you can also reduce the real-time stream limit below the default maximum of 5; but try other options for improving real-time playback first, because lowering the stream limit reduces your real-time capabilities.

(For more information on addressing real-time playback problems, see the sidebar “Handling Real-Time Playback Problems” later in this chapter.)

  • Real-time playback bars: You can turn on color-coded real-time playback bars in the Timeline Settings dialog box; these warn you about effects that were difficult for Xpress Pro to play.

Red bars denote the frames that the system was unable to play. Yellow bars denote the frames that the system had difficulty playing. Blue bars denote the frames that did not play successfully due to disk speed limitations.
