Chapter 4. Capturing and Importing Media > Importing Media from Another Xpress ...

Importing Media from Another Xpress Pro Project

If you want to import clips into your project that were captured in another Xpress Pro project, all you have to do is open the relevant bin from the other project and drag and drop clips (or other bin objects) from the foreign bin into one of your current project's bins.

To import source media from another project:

Choose File > Open Bin. In the dialog box that appears, choose Bins Documents from the Files of Type (Windows) or Show (Mac) pop-up menu.

Navigate to your Avid Projects folder and open your user name folder.

Your user name folder contains multiple folders, each named after one of your projects.

Open the project folder that contains the bin you want to open. Select the bin and click Open (Figure 4.47).

Figure 4.47. To import shots and other media used in another project, you need to open the bin from the other project that contains the clips you need.

The bin opens in your current Xpress Pro project.

In the imported bin's window, select the source media that you want include in your current project (use Shift+click to select multiple clips).

Press Ctrl+D (Windows) or Command+D (Mac) to duplicate the selected clips.

Drag the clip duplicates into a bin in your current project.

Close the foreign bin.

You can now edit with the source media you copied from your other project.

Reconnecting Source Media to Offline Clips: The Batch Import Trick

If your source clips—or any objects in your bin—become disconnected from their source media files, Xpress Pro will mark them “Media Offline.” To reconnect the offline clips to their source media files, you need to select them, choose Bin > Batch Import, select Offline Only in the dialog box that appears, and point Xpress Pro to the file in the following Batch Import dialog box.

(For more information on this procedure, see “Relinking Offline Clips to Online Source Media” in Chapter 13.)
