User Experience

The kind of menus you create will be based on general themes from the video content, but filtered through your own unique creativity. The combination of a menu system and its associated video content makes a cumulative emotional impression on a viewer, known as the user experience.

To shape the user experience, a designer needs to establish a visual environment that prepares the viewer for the movie they are about to see. Within this environment, menus make the first impression. It's critical that the menus provide the right cues, so by the time the viewer begins to watch the video, he has already correctly sensed the emotional tone. For example, a dramatic thriller should be preceded by menus that have a serious and somewhat tense attitude. It wouldn't be appropriate to use humorous imagery and a comical soundtrack because they would give the wrong impression. You should make sure that your menus are consistent with the theme of the video and don't create any confusion for the viewer.
