Characteristics that Enhance Usability

Usability Tip

A DVD that includes supplemental computer files stored in its ROM section should also include a menu item that alerts users of the extra content, otherwise they may not be aware it's there if they view the disc on a set-top player instead of on a computer. If appropriate, the menu should list the individual items in the ROM section.

Usability can be subjective. Two different people using identical DVD discs may disagree about how usable they are due to personal preferences, past experience, or personal expectations. Apart from unpredictable personal preferences, there are a number of usability characteristics that should always be considered when you design DVD menus.
