Chapter 8. Menu Design Process: Helpful guidelines for DVD menu design

What does design really matter to members of the DVD-viewing public? Do they notice if the graphics are innovative and beautiful to behold? Can they tell the difference between motion or still menus? Is the pursuit of creative DVD design really worth the time, money, and effort?

These are all valid questions, considering most people rent or buy a DVD solely to watch the main video content and bonus features. Only designer-types or hard-core fans would anticipate watching a menu system. The rest of the viewing public won't even think about menus at all until the moment they first pop the disc into the player.
