What is DLT?

Digital Linear Tape is a common archival system that uses half-inch magnetic tape and requires a separate DLT drive. DLT drives use a SCSI connection (Small Computer System Interface, pronounced “scuzzy”) which is not provided on newer computers. If you have an empty slot in your computer, you can install a third-party SCSI card and then connect a DLT drive. Or you may be able to find a friend or a local service bureau who can copy your files to a DLT for you.

DLT has the advantage of being very reliable compared to DVD-R and less likely to be written with errors.
