The Replication Process

Verification Tip

Avoid disc errors by verifying your disc before you send it to a replicator. If there are any kind of playback errors in the final DVD-R disc (or DLT tape, if used to deliver final files to a replication facility), the replicator will not be able to correct them. Deliver a back-up disc along with the original, just in case an error is encountered on the original.

Replication is an injection molding process used to reproduce large quantities of discs, usually more than one or two hundred. Replication is mandatory when disc content won't fit on a single-sided, single-layer disc. Since the duplication process can only make single-sided, single-layer DVD-Rs, any project whose storage capacity exceeds one layer of data (4.37 GB) must be replicated.
