Audio Bit Depth and Channels

Audio bit depth refers to the number of bits used to describe each audio sample. Bit depth affects the range of sound that the audio file can reproduce, from silence to the loudest sound. This range is known as the signal-to-noise ratio (s/n), which can be measured in decibels (dB).

Premiere and many other programs express this range as bit depth and allow you to choose the one that is most appropriate for your needs (Figure 18.31).
