Overscan and Safe Zones

The method used to scan the image onto the screen—progressive or interlaced—is just one important difference between computer and television monitors. Whereas computer monitors display the entire video image, televisions overscan the video image, cropping off the outer edges of the screen. To make matters worse, the amount of overscan differs slightly from television to television (Figures 18.14 and 18.15).
