Opening Clips

You can open a clip that is not currently listed in the Project window and is therefore not part of the current project. This way, you can look at a clip before you choose to add it to the project.

To open a clip that is not in the project:

1.
Choose File > Open (Figure 4.16).

The Open File dialog box appears.

Locate the clip that you want to view, and click Open (Figure 4.17).

The clip opens in the source view or clip window, depending on the media type and the preferences you set (see the preceding section, “Clip Windows”).

To add an open clip to the project:

  • Do one of the following:

    • Drag an open clip to the Project window (Figure 4.18).

    • Drag an open clip to an available track in the timeline.

    • With the open clip selected, choose Clip > Add Clip to Project (Figure 4.19), or press - (Mac) or - (Windows).
