Chapter 6. Editing in the Timeline > Enabling and Disabling Clips

Enabling and Disabling Clips

Disabling a clip in the timeline prevents it from appearing during playback and when you preview or export the program. Disabling a clip is useful if you want to keep the clip in the program but want to exclude it temporarily. You might want to disable a single audio clip to hear what the program sounds like without it, for example. You can still move and make other changes to a disabled clip.

To disable or enable a clip:

1.
Select one or more clips in the timeline.

2.
Choose Clip > Enable Clip on Timeline (Figure 6.45).

Figure 6.45. Select one or more clips in the timeline, and choose Clip > Enable Clip on Timeline.

A checkmark indicates that the clip is enabled. No checkmark indicates that the clip is disabled. Disabled clips have hatch marks in the timeline (Figure 6.46). Notice that hatch marks on a disabled clip slope down to the right.

Figure 6.46. Unchecking Enable Clip on Timeline disables the selected clips, which have hatch marks (sloping down to the right) in the timeline.
