Chapter 12. Creating Titles > Using the Pen Tools

Using the Pen Tools

In contrast to the old title feature, the Title Designer comes with the powerful pen tool. Now, the kinds of shapes you can create are practically limitless. You can create an open Bezier path—anything from a simple straight line to a complex squiggle—or you can join the ends to form a closed Bezier.

To create a Bezier curve:

1.
In the Title Designer toolbox, select the pen tool (Figure 12.67).

2.
Do one of the following:

  • To create an anchor point, click in the drawing area (Figure 12.68).

  • To create a smooth point, drag your cursor around in the drawing area (Figure 12.69).

  • After creating a smooth point, you may drag a control handle to adjust the curve before continuing.

3.
To create a corner point, select the convert tool and drag a control handle (Figure 12.70).

Afterwards, you must reselect the pen tool and click on the corner point. Otherwise, the next point you create will begin a new path.

4.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 to create straight and curved segments between points (Figure 12.71).

5.
Do either of the following:

  • To close the path, position the pen tool over the first control point, so that a circle icon appears , then click (Figure 12.72).

  • To leave the path open, choose the selection tool.
