Three-Point Editing

The point in the term three-point editing refers to in points and out points. As you know, in points and out points in the clip define where it starts and ends. Similarly, in and out points in the program define where the clip starts and ends in the program.

In drag-and-drop editing, you set the source in and out points in the source view, but the program’s in and out points were implied by where you dragged the clip into the timeline (see “Using Drag-and-Drop Editing,” earlier in this chapter). In the following sections, you mark both the source and program editing points in the Monitor window.
