Understanding Capture Options

At the minimum, video capture requires a video source (a camera or deck) and a capture device (a FireWire connection or analog capture card). For more professional-level editing, you may use additional options, such as device control and timecode. These options not only make features such as automated capture—or batch capture—available, they also make it possible to employ an offline/online editing strategy.

Device control, timecode, and batch capture are summarized below. Later sections put these concepts into practice.
