Chapter 10. Rendering > Previewing with the QuickView Tab

Previewing with the QuickView Tab

The QuickView tab is a window that displays previews of effects that require rendering. FCP computes and displays your work at desktop resolution instead of full-screen full quality, so your previews are up and running faster. QuickView previews are useful for rapid feedback as you tweak a complex effect and, because QuickView displays the whole frame, you can zoom in on a detail on the Canvas and use the QuickView window to keep your eye on the big picture. You can't edit or output from the QuickView window.

QuickView caches and plays back your computed preview in RAM, so the maximum duration of a QuickView preview depends on the amount of available RAM. Each completed frame is cached to RAM and played on the QuickView tab as the preview is being computed. Once the entire selection has been computed, the QuickView tab will loop the preview and play it back at the correct frame rate.
