Chapter 5. Introducing the Viewer > Working with In and Out Points

Working with In and Out Points

The In and Out points determine the start and end frames of the portion of a clip that is used when the clip is edited into a sequence. Determining the usable part of a clip and setting In and Out points is the first step in assembling your edit. Many editing functions are performed by adjusting these points, either within the clip itself or from within a sequence.

To set In and Out points for a clip in the Viewer:

1.
In the Browser, double-click the clip to open it in the Viewer.

2.
Press the Home key to position the playhead at the beginning of the clip.

3.
Use the Play button or the Spacebar to start playing the clip from the beginning.

4.
Click the Mark In button (Figure 5.39), or press I, when you see (or hear) the beginning of the part you want to use.
