Chapter 14. FCP 3 and Mac OS X > Importing CD Audio

Importing CD Audio

The procedure for importing an audio CD track into FCP 3 is different in OS X. Mac OS 9 does not allow drag-and-drop copying of CD audio files, but that's changed in OS X.

To import an audio CD track into an FCP 3 project in Mac OS X:

1.
In the Mac OS X Finder, double-click the audio CD to open it; then select and drag the .cdda audio files you want to import into your project's media folder (Figure 14.19).

2.
Rename the file so you can remember where it came from. If you want the CD audio file to be available to FCP projects running under OS 9, change the file extension from .cdda to .aif (Figure 14.20).

3.
Follow the steps outlined in “To import files or a folder” in Chapter 3.
