Chapter 14. FCP 3 and Mac OS X > Memory Management

Memory Management

OS X introduces dynamic memory allocation to the Macintosh. The operating system has become much more flexible, adjusting each application's memory allocation as needed. You should know a few things about how dynamic memory management affects multi tasking FCP users.

Open applications that aren't currently processing data don't require much memory, but open enough applications and you can start to impair Final Cut Pro's performance. If you decide to try rendering in FCP and Adobe After Effects at the same time, while you're also surfing the Net, you can overtax your Mac's memory.
