Your Tools

It has been said that a great photographer can take great photographs with a marginal camera, but a marginal photographer cannot take great photographs, no matter how great the camera. Think about this.

Years ago, I had a guitar teacher who played a fabulous Gibson guitar. His students all banged around on $25 garage-sale models, and we sounded like it. At the end of every class, he would borrow one of the cheap guitars from a student and just jam. I swear, he made our toy instruments sound unreal—a gentle reminder to us that spending two grand on a guitar was not as important as practice. (I still own my $25 guitar—and I still sound pretty marginal.)
