Chapter 5. Getting Ready to Edit > Your “Edit Bay”

Your “Edit Bay”

Because professionals spend all day editing, and the equipment can be expensive, they often rent editing rooms specifically designed for both efficiency and comfort. These rooms, called edit bays, are very dark and cool and cozy and are often equipped with a dedicated countertop, a bunch of monitors, a special keyboard, nice speakers, and a comfy sofa in the back so the director/producer/client can recline, sip sodas, chat on the phone, and watch what's going on all at the same time. You don't need to build a whole “bay,” but if video is your hobby you'll want to have an appropriate workspace for editing.
