Chapter 5. Getting Ready to Edit > The Camera and the Computer

The Camera and the Computer

Editing is possible because a camera can connect to a computer in a standard way (remember FireWire?). Let's set up a place where you can edit and watch your videos. It should be almost like your TV setup: You'll want to be comfortable and have lots of high-quality sound and images at your disposal. But it will also be like your office: You'll need a comfortable chair, a modern computer, and some workspace. In the trade-off between comfort and efficiency, I know that efficiency—and its evil twin, economy—tend to win out. Most of us will edit wherever our computer is sitting. This is okay. You can set up something fancier after you've been editing for a while and are pretty sure that it's your new favorite hobby.

Now, I know that you have a high-powered computer. But I want to talk about your hard disk and storage.
