Chapter 5. Getting Ready to Edit

Shooting is easy. Everyone knows how to use a camera. And if you watch your video only once after you shoot it, there are few consequences for fairly bad shooting. How wonderful!

Editing, on the other hand, is the problem. Most people don't have an intuitive sense of how to edit a video and, therefore, find the idea daunting. You might think that shooting video is for amateurs, but editing it is only for professionals. This isn't true, but I can sympathize with the reasoning. Until very recently, the tools for editing were too complicated for home video enthusiasts to deal with. But organizing and editing your video can be the most satisfying part of the process. Editing tools now on the market—with (I promise) lots more inexpensive products to come—virtually guarantee that editing will be easy for you. But before we start, there are a few little things you need in order to prepare yourself.
