Chapter 6. Editing > Your Master Tape

Your Master Tape

When all is said and done, the computer goes away and what you are left with is a DV tape with a recording on it. Now that you're pretty well organized, you know not to record your edited video onto the same tape you used for the original (source) footage. You have a special tape, labeled M1, that will be your first “master” videotape.

Master tapes represent both a great deal of work and, ultimately, the part of your video collection you will cherish and watch over and over. I keep many types of video on my master tapes for each project I do. But as I said in Chapter 3, you can devise your own organizing methods that best suit your particular needs.
