Chapter 7. Properties and Keyframes > Viewing an Audio Waveform

Viewing an Audio Waveform

You can expand the outlines of layers containing audio to reveal an audio waveform display that provides a graphical representation of the audio's left and right channels.

The waveform's shape corresponds to characteristics of the audio. For example, you can often identify the beat of the bass drum in a song by finding peaks in the waveform. The size of the waveform corresponds to the level, or volume, of the audio. Increasing the levels (by setting the Levels property or by applying an audio effect) makes the waveform taller; decreasing the levels makes the waveform shorter.
