Setting Video Preferences

If your system includes a video output device (such as an IEEE-1394/FireWire/iLink connection), you can view previews on an NTSC monitor—crucial for evaluating images destined for video output.

To set video preferences:

1.
Choose Edit > Preferences > Video Preview (Figure 8.6).

The Video Preview panel of the Preferences dialog box appears (Figure 8.7).

In the Preferences dialog box, choose an option from the Output Device pull-down menu (Figure 8.8).

Your choices will depend on your particular setup.

Choose an option from the Output Mode pull-down menu (Figure 8.9).

Typically, you should choose an option that's equivalent to full-screen video for your output device.

For Update Desktop During Video Playback, do either of the following:

  • Check the option to display updates on the computer screen as well as on the NTSC monitor.

  • Leave the option unchecked to suppress updates on the computer screen while playing video on the NTSC monitor.

For Show Output, choose one of the following:

During RAM Previews— Displays RAM previews on the NTSC monitor.

For All Window Updates— Displays all window updates on the NTSC monitor.

Including Renders— If you selected For All Window Updates, checking this option as well displays rendered frames on the NTSC monitor.

6.
Click OK to close the Preferences dialog box.

Previews appear on the connected NTSC monitor according to the preferences you set.
