Saving Single Frames of a Composition

Frequently, you'll want to render just a single frame of a composition. For example, when an animation halts its motion, substituting a single still image for multiple static layers can lighten the rendering load. Or you may simply need a still for a storyboard or client review. After Effects allows you to save a single frame using the default frame settings or as a layered Photoshop file.

To save a composition frame as a still-image file:

1.
In the Timeline window, set the current time of the composition to the frame you want to export (Figure 17.63).

Choose Composition > Save Frame As > File (Figure 17.64).

A Save As dialog box opens.

In the Save As dialog box, specify the destination and name of the saved frame (Figure 17.65).

Click Save to close the Save As dialog box.

The item appears selected in the Render Queue window (Figure 17.66).

To change the default settings for frames, select Render Settings and Output Module settings, or choose templates.

The previous sections explain how to select settings and save templates.

6.
In the Render Queue window, click Render.
