Layer Modes

In previous chapters, you learned that higher layers in the stacking order are superimposed with lower layers according to their alpha channel (which can also be modified with masks) or their Opacity property value. If you want to combine layers in more varied and subtle ways, however, you can use a variety of Layer modes. By default, the Layer mode is set to Normal. You can change the mode by selecting an option from the Mode menu in (you guessed it) the Modes panel of the Timeline window. When you do, the Video switch for the layer displays a darkened Eye icon (Figure 12.11).
