Because you can place several masks in the same layer, it can become difficult to isolate the one you want to modify. Fortunately, you can lock masks, both to protect them from unintentional changes and to make it easier to select an unlocked mask. In the Timeline window, a Lock icon appears next to a locked mask. If you're still having a hard time isolating the mask you wish to use, you can hide locked masks. Although hiding locked masks conceals them in the Layer window, they still function normally, and their effects can be seen in the Composition window.
