Locking a Layer

The fourth column of the A/V Features panel contains the Lock switch, which you can use to lock layers so that they're protected against accidental changes. When you attempt to select a locked layer, it blinks to remind you that it's locked and thus can't be selected or altered. You must unlock the layer to make changes.

To lock or unlock a layer:

  • Next to a layer in the Timeline window, click the Lock switch to toggle the Lock icon on and off.

    When the Lock icon is visible, the layer cannot be selected or modified (Figure 5.27); when the Lock icon is hidden, the layer is unlocked (Figure 5.28).
