Chapter 2. Importing Footage into a Proj... > Importing Photoshop and Illustrator ...

Importing Photoshop and Illustrator Files

Not surprisingly, After Effects fully embraces files generated by its Adobe siblings, Photoshop and Illustrator. After Effects not only accepts the standard single-layer file types (PCT, TIF, EPS, Filmstrip, and so on) but also supports layered Photoshop and Illustrator files.

After Effects can import Photoshop and Illustrator files as individual layers, merged layers, or as a layered composition. After Effects preserves practically every aspect of your Photoshop work, including position, transfer modes, opacity, layer masks, clipping groups, adjustment layers, and layer effects. After Effects even preserves vector masks created in Photoshop 6. And as pointed out earlier in this chapter, you can import Photoshop images saved with 16 bits per channel when you use the Production Bundle version of After Effects.
