Applying Effects

Although effects are numerous and varied, you apply all of them in essentially the same way.

To apply an effect:

1.
Select a layer in a composition (Figure 10.1).

Choose Effect > then choose an effect category and an individual effect from the submenu (Figure 10.2).

3.
If an options dialog box appears, select options for the effect and press OK to close the dialog box (Figure 10.3).

An Effect Controls window appears with the effect selected (Figure 10.4).

4.
Using controls in the Effect Controls window or the expanded layer outline of the Timeline window, adjust the property values for the effect, and animate them if you want (Figure 10.5).

The applied effect appears in the composition (Figure 10.6).
