Using Compound Effects

Due to their peculiar nature, compound effects have certain unique features. This section summarizes those attributes; the following chapter describes the steps entailed in creating a few simple compound effects. More complex techniques are addressed in Chapter 15.

Specifying an Effect Source

In compound effects, you must use a pull-down menu to specify the modifying layer (Figure 10.64). Although the modifying layer must be included in the composition to appear in the list, you usually switch off its video in the Timeline window. This is because the modifying layer appears in the composition only as an effect source, not a visible layer.
