Using Alpha Channels

Graphic artists use alpha channels to achieve sophisticated transparency effects. Although an alpha channel is a type of mask, it can include partly transparent pixels, so that when the image containing the alpha channel is layered on top of another image, the transition between the two images is less abrupt and looks more seamless. Figures 8.26 and 8.27 show an example of an image and its alpha channel.
