Chapter 8. Working with Visual Tracks > Making a Color Transparent in a Track

Making a Color Transparent in a Track

When you have layered one track on top of another, you can define a particular color in the image to be transparent. This technique works best in images with solid areas of color—computer-generated images or animations rather than photographic images.

To make a color in the track transparent:

1.
From the Movie menu, choose Get Movie Properties to open the Properties window.

2.
From the left pop-up menu, choose a visual track; from the right pop-up menu, choose Graphics Mode.

3.
In the scrolling list, choose “transparent.”

4.
Click the Color button (Figure 8.20).

Figure 8.20. In the Graphics Mode panel of the Properties window, after choosing transparent in the scrolling list, click the Color button to open the Color Picker dialog box.

A Color Picker dialog box appears (Figures 8.21 and 8.22).

5.
Pick the color that you want to make transparent, and click OK.

Any portions of the image that are in the color you selected become transparent (Figure 8.23).
