Chapter 8. Working with Visual Tracks > Creating a Still-Image File from a Movi...

Creating a Still-Image File from a Movie Image

Whenever you have a movie window with a visual element, you can create a still-image file (in BMP or PICT format) of what appears in that window. You can also create a still image in other formats, though the technique is not quite as straightforward.

To export an image as a PICT or BMP file:

1.
Move QuickTime Player’s Current Location indicator until the image you want to export appears in the window.

2.
From the File menu, choose Export (Figure 8.34).

Figure 8.34. To create a still image from an image in the movie window, choose File > Export.

The Export dialog box opens.

3.
From the Export pop-up menu, choose Movie to Picture (for a PICT file) or Movie to BMP (Figure 8.35).

Figure 8.35. Choose Movie to BMP or Movie to Picture, depending on whether you want a BMP or PICT file.

4.
(Optional) Click the Options button to open the Compression Settings dialog box (Figure 8.36), where you can specify compression settings for the image.

Figure 8.36. You can click the Options button to open a dialog box that lets you choose compression settings.

See Chapter 9 for more information on compression settings.

5.
Specify a new location and name for the file, if desired, and click Save.

The exported image contains everything that’s visible in the QuickTime Player window, even if the image is composed of data from multiple tracks.
