Chapter 5. The QuickTime Standard Controllers

Chapter 5. The QuickTime Standard Controllers

When you view movies embedded on a Web page, you won’t see the buttons you’re used to seeing in QuickTime Player. Instead, you’ll often see a bar with various buttons below the movies. One set of buttons appears for linear, time-based movies; another, for QuickTime VR movies. These are QuickTime’s standard controllers, which are also used by many QuickTime applications (although not QuickTime Player).

These controllers offer many of the same features as the controls in QuickTime Player. For linear movies, they give you a way to play and pause, to access points quickly and efficiently, and to adjust the volume. For VR movies, you can show hot spots, go back to a previous node in a multiple-node movie, and zoom in and out.

In addition, the standard controllers have a few extra options. The linear controller has buttons that step through a movie frame by frame and that allow you to change the rate of movie playback. The VR controller has a button that allows you to drag zoomed objects. For linear and VR movies with audio, you can overdrive audio.

In this chapter, we’ll show you how to use all the buttons in the standard controllers.
