Chapter 2. QuickTime Player Basics

Chapter 2. QuickTime Player Basics

In this chapter, we’ll start with a quick tour of the QuickTime Player window, pointing out the controls that provide access to its many features.

We’ll then show you how to use QuickTime Player to open both local and remote files. You can open not only standard QuickTime movies but also video, animation, sound, and graphics files in various other formats.

After that, we’ll cover how to use both QuickTime’s preprogrammed QuickTime TV Channels and its bookmarking feature (called Favorites), how to change window sizes, and how to get basic info about the movie.

Finally, we’ll introduce you to QuickTime Player’s Properties window, which you’ll use throughout this book, and cover some of the key preferences you can set for QuickTime Player.

Chapter 3 goes into more depth, covering all the QuickTime Player features for playing linear movies. Chapter 4 shows you how to control QuickTime VR movies.
