Chapter 1. QuickTime Basics > Obtaining and Installing QuickTime 5

Obtaining and Installing QuickTime 5

If you don’t have QuickTime 5, you need to get it. If you’re a Windows or Mac OS 9 user, you can download an installer from Apple’s QuickTime Web site, which you can then run on your computer. (No installer is available for Mac OS X, because QuickTime is part of the operating system.)

To get the QuickTime 5 installer:

  • Go to Apple’s QuickTime Download page, http://www.apple.com/quicktime/ download (Figure 1.9), and follow the download instructions.

Figure 1.9. You can download QuickTime 5 from Apple’s QuickTime Download page.

A file called QuickTimeInstaller (Windows) or QuickTime Installer (Mac OS 9) will be downloaded to your computer.

At the end of the download process, some browsers show a dialog box with an Open button, which if clicked, opens the file that was just downloaded. If you see this dialog box and click the Open button, you can skip to step 2 in the following sequence of steps.
