Choosing Video Compression Settings

Unfortunately, it’s impossible to provide the one thing everybody wants: a precise recipe for compressing your video for the Web. The settings you choose should depend on the content of your video, your aesthetics, your audience, and many other factors.

We can, however, give you some tips and guidelines that will help you make appropriate choices, whether you’re doing HTTP or RTSP streaming. Use this information as a starting point only. Even professionals repeatedly experiment with different setting combinations to achieve the proper balance of data rate, frame rate, and image quality.
