Chapter 14. Music Tracks > Converting Karaoke Files to QuickTime

Converting Karaoke Files to QuickTime

Because karaoke files contain both MIDI and text data, they become movies with both music and text tracks when they are converted to QuickTime.

To create a music and text track from a karaoke file:

1.
From the File menu, choose Import or Open Movie.

2.
Select the file in the Open dialog box, and click Convert.

If you are a Windows user, you may need to set the Files of Type pop-up menu to Audio Files to see the karaoke file.

A Save dialog box appears.

3.
Click the Options button to open the Standard MIDI Import Options dialog box.

You will notice that the bottom section of the dialog box is not dimmed (Figure 14.5), as it is for MIDI files.

4.
Make sure that the “Import lyrics as karaoke” checkbox is checked.

You can click the Text options button to open the Text Import Settings dialog box (Figure 14.6). See “Specifying Text Track Appearance When You Import” in Chapter 10 for a complete explanation of the options in this dialog box.

Figure 14.6. If you click the Text Options button in the Standard MIDI Import dialog box, the Text Import Settings dialog box appears so that you can change the properties of the text track that will be created.

5.
In the Text Import Settings dialog box (if you opened it) and the Standard MIDI Import Options dialog box, click OK to return to the Save dialog box.

6.
Click Save.

A window containing text appears (Figure 14.7). If you check the Properties window, you’ll see that the movie contains both a text track and a music track (Figure 14.8).
