Chapter 19. Movies on CD-ROM and Kiosk > About Additional Compressors

About Additional Compressors

You can add additional codecs to your system to compress QuickTime movies for CD-ROM or kiosk. Some may result in higher-quality audio and video than QuickTime’s built-in compressors can provide.

For video compression, the Developer Edition of Sorenson Video (described in Chapter 16) is one of the most commonly used compressors. Movies compressed with version 2 of Sorenson Developer will play back on any computer that includes QuickTime 3 or higher, and movies compressed with Sorenson Developer 3 will play back on any computer that includes QuickTime 5. With either of these Sorenson codecs, viewers don’t need any additional files. Similarly, movies compressed with Cinepak Pro will play back on any computer that has QuickTime 1.6 or later.
