Getting Time Information About the Movie and Selection

Sometimes during editing, it’s useful to know the precise duration of your movie and selection. The time display to the left of the Time slider shows only seconds and not fractions of a second.

To get time information:

1.
From the Movie menu, choose Get Movie Properties (Figure 6.12) to open the movie’s Properties window.

Figure 6.12. Choose Movie > Get Movie Properties to open the Properties window.

2.
Make sure that Movie is selected in the left pop-up menu; from the right pop-up menu, choose Time (Figure 6.13).

The Time panel provides four pieces of information concerning time (Figure 6.14). The first line, Current Time, shows the point in time relative to the start of the movie at which the Current Location indicator is positioned. The second line shows the duration of the movie. The bottom two lines show the point in time relative to the start of the movie at which the selection begins and how long the selection lasts. Time values in the Time panel are represented as hours:minutes: seconds.thirtieths of a second. Thus, 00:12:45.15 represents zero hours, 12 minutes, 45 seconds, and fifteen-thirtieths (or one-half) of a second.
