Chapter Three. Editing Patterns > Editing for Corporate Communications

Editing for Corporate Communications

Corporate communications include in-house training videos, video press releases (sometimes called EPKs, short for “electronic press kits”), messages to stockholders, product demonstrations, and so on.

In many ways, corporate video (sometimes called industrial video) is situated halfway between narrative and documentary work, and sometimes may seem the best of both worlds. Corporate videos are like pre-scripted documentaries. The B-roll footage is usually meticulously planned out, with adequate coverage to ensure that the subject is successfully captured. (No more hunting for just the right shot!) Interviews are usually scripted and may well include multiple takes so you'll have a choice of shots to use. Best of all, corporate videos are frequently well funded. Of course, on the downside, they often lack the excitement and soul of true narrative or documentary films.
