Sound Effects Tracks

Anything in your soundtrack that's neither dialogue nor music is considered part of the sound effects. Sound effects can be divided into environmental sounds and non-environmental sounds.

Environmental Sound

Environmental sound is caused by on-screen objects or events and includes doors closing, footsteps, gunshots, ringing telephones, and so on. While it's common practice to dedicate only a single track to these elements, it's not at all unusual for two or more effects to occur simultaneously. This requires multiple tracks—one for each of these practical sound effects (Figure 7.2).
