Transitions

Every edit point is a transition from one shot to another, so in a way all cuts are transitions. If you want to use a special type of transition, such as a dissolve or wipe, you need to apply that transition to the edit point as an effect.

Transitions can be applied in a number of ways. If you like to drag and drop, you can select a transition from the Effects tab in the Browser (Figure 5.58) and drag it onto any edit point in your Timeline (Figure 5.59). If you're parked on an edit point, you can also drag and drop the effect onto the Canvas. Alternately, you can use the Effects menu and choose an effect from the Video Transitions submenu. The Effects menu and the Effects tab in the Browser are duplicates of one another. If you add or modify something in the Browser tab, it will be reflected in the menu.
